Each Tom’s Drag item starts with a few quick sketches, which the artist draws and quickly transforms into a detailed image. At this point, a rough figure is hand-carved from the wood with dimensions and proportions that reflect those that the final object will have. It is hand-painted by the artist and the prototype is created from which the rubber form will be carved. This caoutchouc form is the key to all of Tom’s Drag’s works, as liquid marmorino, a mixture of ground marble and synthetic resin, will be poured into it and then solidified. The piece, initially an opaque white colour, is then painted white and then polished. At this point, the edges of the colour fields are drawn in pencil to serve the artist as a reference for painting the object. The work concludes with the application of a resin that makes the colours resistant.
